When one goes down the mountain on the opposite side to Leh after crossing the pass of the Kardung, the stony path becomes bitumen in the heart of the Nubra valley.
The yellow flowers color ditches, rocky peaks absorb our gaze and green villages lead to life in this magical setting.
After some 100kms, turns end and vegetation fades, sand covering the road and the wind blows the clouds of fine grains in the air, on our right like a mirage, a group of camels walking towards a desert of sand dunes that face us in the heart of the mountains at about 3000 meters above sea level.
Armed with a special permit, our next step leads us to the Tibetan border, crossing military camps, wild horse herds and pastures full of marmots, we slowly climb above the 4000 meters.
Along 134km, perched at 4350 meters, the gigantic sacred lake of Pangong Tso fleet under our eyes in the middle of the mountains.
It is a natural border between the two countries, 40% of the waters is based in India, 60% being Chinese. The water is clear, calm, deep, intense full moon and countless stars. The stakes are planted, the canvas tent unfolded, and we spend two nights in the middle of paradise.
