From Manali altimeter shows 1950 meters, it is 6 am and motorbikes are loaded, the clear skies and the sun illuminates the white tip of the peaks ahead.

The road stretches over 500 kms, alternating tar, sand and rocks, through rivers and steep cliffs.

The green mountains of the first kilometers or tributary pastures and small villages is giving way to the Rocky Mountains, the first mountain passes over 4,000 meters are crossed.

After Sarchu passed km 219, it is snowing in the Lachungla pass, above 5000 meters the wind is cold and rain replace the gentle flakes on the way down, the rock becomes sand, here we are in the altitude canyons, the sun is back and we spend the night in tents in the camp base of Pang [4600 meters].

The road that leads us to the second highest motorable pass in the world Tanglang La [5328 meters] is a treasure of nature, words are losing. Plain Morey is huge and this altitude desert is a sight for sore eyes, a feeling of loneliness in mind we cross the Himalayas, the fourth day of our journey we sleep at Karu in a village house.

Vegetation reappears arriving around Leh, we drop below 4000 meters, motorcycles regain their vigor, the mountains form the majestic ridges and Buddhist temples dot the peaks.

The luxury suite awaits us in Leh, housed in a Ladakhi family, greeted to the sound of ‘Julley [hello local, serving also to thank, greet, question …], and the spoon in the cup of tea.

Only 35 kilometers separate us from the Kardung pass, on of the highest road in the world [5359 meters].

The clouds are absent today, and the slope is long and steep climb of about 35km of gravel roads, engines suffer, but the chain of white mountains offering the view from the top is worth it.

The stopper of the bottle of Beaujolais jumps, the  »emmental » cheese is sliced and the french sausage  »saucisson » cut. The other side is awaiting us, the Nubra valley. Today we are in India for 7 months.
